Album

Out of the Blue: Live at Wembley is a concert film by the Electric Light Orchestra. In 1978 the band played the Wembley Arena for a record eight appearances. The opening night a charity Gala event was filmed in the presence of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the band were introduced by US actor Tony Curtis. The stage was a huge flying saucer with hydraulic lifts, the 'roof' would open up to reveal the band. The concert was one of the first examples of lasers used at a live rock concert. Originally released on laser disc in Japan, ELO's 1978 Wembley concert - a benefit performance hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and introduced by Tony Curtis - finally showed up in America on DVD a decade later, remastered and with the added bonus of the group's complete Discovery album appended to the concert evidently, the group did. The Electric Light Orchestra are one of the most successful British bands of all time. Formed after the break up of The Move in 1970 they pioneered the integration of orchestral instruments into pop music and released a series of groundbreaking and increasingly successful albums through the seventies that culminated in the multi-million selling Out Of The Blue. This concert is from the world tour for that album and was filmed at Londons Wembley Arena in 1978. The first part of this DVD has one concert filmed at Wembley Stadium in 1978, during the Out of the Blue tour, with the band using the Spacecraft design on stage. That Spacecraft first appeared in the cover design of their Out of the Blue album from 1977. The second part of this DVD has promotional videos recorded for the Discovery album in 1979. They were doing playback to the studio favourite of all these promotional videos is Last Train to London, which is really a song more inspired by Disco Music, but it has a very good synthesizer solo played by Richard Tandy. Filmed live in 1978 at the world famous Wembley Stadium, the Out of the Blue Tour became the rock show to be seen. Combining special effects with some of ELO's massive hits, the show can be best described as out of this world. This is the show where Star Wars met rock n' roll.
