Felt Mountain was the first album produced by British band Goldfrapp. Though it is not my personal favorite Supernature, it does rank very highly in my current library. This is one of those albums I was hoping for a vinyl re-release. So I put it aside, then listened to it again a few days later. And then again a few days after that

Where is the number on this? Can’t find mine anywhere.
This pressing has one virtue: it taught me to read the comments before I purchase. Sounds horrible, low level which compels to turn up the volume to essentially hear unusual surface noise.
My copy seems to be a good pressing - clear as a bell.
Skip this and get the European pressing. Returned my RSD copy and did just that. Better quality all around and a heavyweight pressing (with accurate reproduction of the original labels, unlike this one). I'm over these rush-released Record Store Day "exclusives." All hype and rarely high quality due to the overburdening of pressing plants. Goldfrapp had NO idea this was even coming out (tellingly released through BMG) but thankfully were able to rectify the poor quality control with the Mute version. Oh, and if you're concerned about collecting a "limited edition" version that will rise in value over time - don't be. 4000 copies for a 15-year-old reissue by completely niche artist (in the US) on vinyl is a LOT, especially with an equivalent, higher quality version also on the market.
Please continue making adorable generalizations about people, I'm sure it'll go well for you. Cheers ;)
Record Store Day is for bearded hipsters who love paying $40 for $4 records. Then they go home and listen to it on their USB turntable through their apple computer. You know I'm correct so there is no sense arguing or trying to defend yourself if this is you.
#1800 reporting in. sounds fine. yes the levels may be a little low by my mixer can compensate.
Europe version is comming out tomorrow and hopefully on a black vinyl!
it has been delayed for several times now..http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/goldfrapp-felt-mountain-vinyl-lp/http://www.mutebank.co.uk/mutebank/mutebank/Felt-Mountain-White-Vinyl-Edition/4M8Q0000000
Where exactly did you see it's being released...?
#643 from  turntablelab NYC shop. Lucky it sounds great.
I had the same problems as many of you here with my copy. I wrote to Mute about them and they forwarded the email to BMG. One week later I received another copy without any issues. I suggest you do the same.
I emailed Mute and I also got a replacement from BMG. It's still not a perfect pressing, but it is noticeably better than the other copy I have.
1845/4000After cleaning the record:Volume is low, surface noises, cracks on side B.Not a good pressing, disappointing and disheartening, they spat on this beautiful record.
#0342 - Awesome copy, no surface noise, no pops, no clicks, though the LP's volume is a bit lower than my other LPs but it sounds perfect on both sides! Lucky to have a decent copy after reading the reviews
Well my copy is slightly wraped but that did not affect it though - and its thickness is equal, and there is no hissing as well, I've played it almost 5 times now with attentive listening on a high volume level and it plays perfectly. I guess I am extremely lucky
Is your copy perfectly flat? My first one was severely warped at the edges and of uneven thickness. The second is not perfectly flat (you can see the arm slightly waving up and down especially towards the middle, not at the edges) but the warping - or rather the uneven thickness - is gradual and doesn't affect play. Surface noise is high in terms of hiss on both copies, but no crackle or pops on either copy. There is a repetitive thumping noise on both copies for some seconds at the beginning of side A.
Really bad quality.
After such a long wait for this album to be reissued what a total let down. Poor pressing quality throughout the whole album. EG, click & pops , surface noise & the vinyl is slightly warped. Over priced waste of money.
2873 here. Sounds just fine to me. Couple of crackles that'll probably go away once it's been cleaned. Coloured vinyl has never been renown for its sound quality in any case.
#2428 Clicks through most of side 1 track 3 and end of side 1 . Also clicks at beginning side 2.Queued for 3 hours and paid £35 in UK for a piece of crap. Have sent a tweet to @MuteUSA. Will report back any response. I suggest everyone do likewise.
Got my replacement copy during the week #0729.Sounds perfect to me, can't detect any dimples either. If anyone else needs a replacement this seems to be the way to do it:send email to:[email protected] will pass details on to the production house at ingrooves.com and they send out replacement.
Same here - BMG are sending out a replacement this week.
I did the same via e-mail. (Contacted Mute) they didn't press it, but forwarded on my complaint to BMG. BMG contracted me the next day. They just asked for my address and 1 week later, I got a much better press. only one dimple each side and they're only audible with the volume over 3. They were entirely friendly and attentive throughout the communication. If yer copy has the pressing issue, the above worked great for me. A surprisingly positive resolution for all involved.Aside: I've got a great copy for sale. A measly 250 bucks.I'm totally kidding. Hanging onto it. I can't bum someone else out like that. Because I'm not a sociopath.
*** oops #1/4000
#2641. Plays fine!
I have #771 and my white pressing has some discoloration in it, not marbled.. but perhaps some blue or gray made its way into the pressing. Is anyone elses coloration a bit off or speckled?
No.1902 here. There are some surface noise and clicks on side one, but perfect on side two.8/10
I had a couple clicks on the opening track on side A, but they were not present after I cleaned it. Everything else sounds nice and clear. I've got 753/4000.
No.3213 one dimple on side A and clicks quit a lot...
I got a similarly crappy copy...1371/4000. Constant surface noise and very audible "dimples" throughout...Great to have it on vinyl finally, too bad the CD sounds much better! :(
2392/4000 here. I'm not too happy with the pressing. There is quite a bit of surface noise and there are a few visible dimples in the vinyl as well, although only one of them can actually be heard when the record is playing. Side one is quite clean, there is almost no deadwax and the last few grooves of the last song do have some 'run-out groove crackle'. Side two is not clean, crackle throughout the first two songs and at the end of the last song.
2350, clean press, sounds 8.5/10.
My copy sounds superb. I am very pleased. There was no limited edition number on my copy.
Weird...my copy plays fine and sounds gorgeous :/
Maybe anyone with a bad/good copy could post their number? Perhaps there's a pattern.
#2960 sounds great - just a couple of pops in the dead wax on second side.
#2849 sounds very good, except second song side two has a couple heavy pops in it.
Lonesome Orange Kid
My number is 2675 and it sounds fine.
Mine is 1141
Mine sounds pretty nice actually. Maybe I wasn't listening loud enough to hear the supposed surface noise?
And the scalpers here are selling a badly pressed record starting at 50usd waiting for that one (or more) sucker to bite.
Yep. Mine's pitted too. All three copies my local store got had the same problem. However, some good news. I sent Mute an email about the issue and they were kind enough to forward it on to BMG (Manufacturer) and they offered to send me a replacement gratis. I suggest y'all with the bad pressing do the same. They should be aware of this crapola.I will say both Mute and BMG were prompt and friendly throughout.
Did anyone else have label pressing errors? Side 1 label was doubled and not adhered well, so it's bubbled up and off center.
Great album, crummy pressing...well my copy at least. Quite a lot of surface noise throughout, and very audible "dimples" on both sides. An album with meticulous production and a great deal of quiet/spare passages deserves a nice clean pressing...it's a shame to find that a CD or MP3 of this album will sound better than the vinyl :(
mine also sounds fine... sorry to hear that!
again another RSD. Shame really, a combination of less pressing plants, huge queues for vinyl pressings now even from big artists (first preference) and quick money making for RSD. Its just not worth it.
