Album

Michel Polnareff born 3 July 1944, Nérac, Lot-et-Garonne, France is a French singer-songwriter, who was popular in France from the mid-1960s until the early 1990s with his penultimate original album, Kāma-Sūtra. He is still critically acclaimed and occasionally tours in France, Belgium and Switzerland. Michel was born into an artistic family: his mother, Simone Lane, was a Breton dancer and his father, Leib Polnareff Russian: Лейб Полнарёв or Léo Poll was a Russian Jewish immigrant from Odessa who. Michel Polnareff's self-titled psychedelic pop masterpiece from 1971 is composed and recorded as all of a piece. The lushly layered textures bring in everyone from Serge Gainsbourg and Burt Bacharach, to funky discotheque, along with intimations of the pop of Sandie Shaw and Françoise Hardy, The Turtles, Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, and, of course, Scott Walker. Polnareff's is an album by Michel Polnareff released in 1971 on AZ Disques. At the time of its release, Polnareff was one of the most successful musicians in France, according to The Independent. The album reflected some very personal and serious issues for Polnareff, including the suicide of Europe 1 radio director Lucien Morisse, a close friend, to whom the song Qui a tué grand'maman was dedicated. Should be as well-known as Gainsbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson. Ambitious, funky and often completely bizarre, this is Polnareff's magnum opus. If you've never heard it before, you're in for a treat. What I love about is so much is it seems to exist completely outside the rules of Anglo-American rock. Some of it is strange ballads, some of it is leftfield rock led by driving piano riffs, and some of it is in incredibly funky early 70s instrumentals that work as a great companion piece to Gainsbourg's output from the time. Strap yourself in for a ride!
