Plot point one is that, right now, the world is not the loving, wonderful place I thought it would be by the year 2018, so the lyrics are semi-apocalyptic. She walked in with complete confidence and I was like, Hailee, this is a big vocal job, you gotta sing 40 or 50 tracks. And she came in and killed it. Its actually one of my favorite songs on the album, because between the guitar and her voice, at a certain point when we break down, its ridiculous. I, as so many others, had eagerly been awaiting Nile Rodgers & CHIC's return since the infectious I'll Be There dropped in March 2015. The album was announced to follow in June 2015 but was then cancelled. Rodgers' original plan on basing it on unreleased CHIC demos from the 70s/80s was dropped, and after three years of seemingly ever-changing focus, Rodgers finally released It's About Time with a glossy cover with a nod to the band's first 1977 LP. While nobody in their right frame of mind could expect this to sound like CHIC 1979, the problem is that Rodgers in his eagerness of bringing in a zillion featured guest stars, despite having a well-played live band and two new more than capable vocalists, seem to have produced a random collection of songs with little identity rather than an album with a clear vision, and the DHM (Deep Hidden Meaning) that Rodgers has often talked about when writing music, seems to have gone out of the window. The first single Till The World Falls was released in June with little fanfare. It's a good catchy opening track with Rodgers' guitar bubbling away. Strangely, Rodgers & CHIC did not perform it on their summer gigs, Rodgers weaving that it was "out of respect for the featured artists" (?) and the video - which was only published two months later after interest had already dropped - was the only shown when the audiences were leaving the show venue.Boogie All Night has a nice groove and an original CHIC feel to it, but the squeaky-voiced NAO does not do it much justice.Sober - featuring Craig David - is a new jack swing track harking back to 1989 and while it is not actually a bad track (the rap part dates it unnecessarily, though) it just has nothing to do with CHIC.Do You Wanna Party? - a gimmicky track with a great groove, funky guitar and surprising key change is let-down by the clichéed overprocessed rap by LunchMoney Lewis and vacuous lyrics. A track that could have been so much more.Dance With Me - Hailee Steinfeld. Perfectly enjoyable piece of music but trite, unoriginal lyrics - and again why call it CHIC?I Dance My Dance - Wow, Rodgers had one crazy idea here: To actually use his own singers! Who would have thought! This is arguably the best track on the album, super catchy with a killer hook, great vocals that actually sound like they were sung by real singers.State Of Mind (It's About Time) - A lavish and lovely piece of instrumental music with Phillippe Saisse. One highlight on the album.Queen - Apparently written for, but rejected by, Diana Ross in the early 80s, this is a sappy, ill-conceived and weird-sounding mess of Elton John and Emeli Sandé, Sir Elton John's voice so muddled that you would never recognise him if you did not know, and the overproccessed vocals just do not gell at all. Had the lyrics had any substance and had the song been sung by a singer who was able to project any soul, this could have been a whole other story. Rodgers premiered a lovely and much superior track called I Believe In Music on BBC - presumably held over for the follow-up album. And that's it. An album 4 years in the making, and we get 30 short minutes of new music. Then there is Gaga's version of I Want Your Love which is decent but unspectacular, and a remix of Sober which adds nothing new to the album version. So everything a bit hit and miss. While Rodgers' guitar licks are as crisp and catchy as ever, he seems to forget that the late Bernard Edwards' bass was just as vital for CHIC's trademark sound which is why it is disappointing to hear programmed synth bass instead. The elegance, the soul, the substance, the strings .... all these elements that captured the essence of CHIC are missing here, and the fact that the album lacks any unity and is ridiculously short .... it bothers me to be negative but it is just the feeling that this album could have been so much more.

Disagree. The only good thing here is "State Of Mine (It’s About Time)".
Delalbine
I agree that "I Dance My Dance" is best (and probably the only great) track from the album. "Dance With Me" is good too. Overall album sounds over-compressed, Nile probably wanted to sound like what kids today like - music that sounds good in earbuds.
Cashoutmaster
I really miss Bernard! And Tony! This sounds poppy for CHIC.
Nanecele
Which are the album tracks and which are bonus tracks? Are "I wan't your Love" and the single remix both bonus tracks or just the remix?
Gold Crown
Sorry to say looked forward to this album but the only outstanding track is I Want Your Love
Kemath
And even THAT track is *ok* in comparison to the original. Gaga's vocals sound forced/strained at best... like she tried to turn it into an 80s rock ballad. No, sweetie, this is a stringy, melodic disco masterpiece that should be treated as such.
Thorgaginn
Why didn't they include Chic's "comeback" single "I'll Be There" - which was announced back in 2015 as 'from the forthcoming album It's About Time" - THREE years later...It's About Time!
Uscavel
This record needs a vinyl release fast, it's bloody genius
Kazracage
Masterpiece? It barely even sounds like CHIC. Not sure what album you just heard.
Chillhunter
