George Gershwin recorded many of his spectacular piano performances on these highly expressive types of piano rolls. The quality of Gershwin's music can gain nothing from my redundant praise, however what should be noted is that this set of CD's is truly the best way to hear him play. The richness of the piano, the pure tone, the open air sound of it, the way it breathes, this is the one you want. It doesn't sound like some mechanical reproduction of a great pianist and composer. By and large, the tunes on this album have not stood the test of time. Nobody now does Kickin' the Clouds Away, from Tell Me More 1925, or On My Mind the Whole Night Long, from Scandals of 1920. Ross Gormans clarinet glissando leads off this historic two-sided acoustically-recorded 12-inch 78 of the George Gershwin masterpiece, arranged 's recordings were immensely successful, and press notices often referred to him as the King of Jazz. Using a large ensemble and exploring many styles of music, Whiteman is perhaps best known for his blending of symphonic music and jazz. His popularity faded in the swing music era of the 1930s, and by the 1940s Whiteman was semi-retired from music. This collection contains the following: When Your Heart's On Fire Smoke Gets In Your Eyes From the musical show Roberta Vocal refrain by Bob Lawrence Harbach, Kern
